Proverbs
'All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.' -Proverbs 14:23
Proverbs 13:24 - 'He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.'
Proverbs 16:21- 'The wise in heart are called discerning, and pleasant words promote instruction.'
Lessons from Friday UB Buffalo Sermon
Proverbs is a book of wisdom literature. It contains many statements that seemingly contradict one another. This is because every situation is unique and calls for the application of different verses each time (Which suggests that good intentions may manifest themselves in completely different choices). They are not to be applied blindly. Instead, there are three strong guidelines that help us to use this book of wisdom effectively:
1) Pray to God and ask for his wisdom
2) Other various bible study techniques such as questioning, paraphrasing, cross-referencing, and visualization
3) Considering which method will have the best positive effect on people involved in the situation
