A smile is just a smile

According to my schedule, I have 5.2 readings to do by tomorrow, but what the hey. Just two hours ago, I ended a 12-hour long contest of wills, and overcame my loathsome 219 essay with a last surge of strength. And now I sound the trumpet in praise of my indomitable will and kingly might. Verily, we are more than conquerors!

Anyway, on a completely random note, allow me to recount something to you. A week ago, I made a self-referential sexist joke to Sharon McLaren, within the flow of our ongoing online conversation. It went something like this:

"Me: I mean, even if I do have a good mind, I don't exactly have the best health or body. You on the other hand, have a nice body. (*The sound of lines being crossed)

Sharon: Hahaha"

You see, this joke is good partly because it plays effectively on stereotypes of sexism, but mostly because it's witty and cool. Saying it made me feel witty and cool. In an excess of confidence, I went and did the same thing with my lindy hop president, (btw guys I'm the vice-president a.k.a. the president of vices woahbenwordplaythatwasreallycoolyeahiknowwasn'tit)except this time I forgot the self-referential disclaimer. It went something like this:

"Me: Thanks for the round of chemistry practice [Note: This is an inside joke]. Maybe next time we should practice physics! [Note: Lack of disclaimer]

Carmela: yeah... lol..."

Immediately I realized my mistake. My looking-glass-self felt a strong sense of embarrassment and mortification, and I quickly moved to alter the consensual working definition of the situation by offering an 'excuse'. The situation was remedied and soon we both parted amicably.

May Schadenfreude have brought you great joy at observing this tale of fail (Woah snice one ben yeahiknowrightskillzthepillznicethespice). May my dismay brighten your day, friends.

Ninpou: Kagemoe no jutsu!

The one thing that guys will never fully get, and that some girls know only too well:

"You must remember this,
a kiss is just a kiss,
a smile is just a smile
you must remember this, as time goes by"

- "As Time Goes By", featured in the movie 'Casablanca' (I think...)

Damn her and her sharp Pakistani nose, twinkling eyes, and sunshine demeanor.
