Deliveries

Things I'm expecting to fill my voyeuristic needs these holidays:

Mych- Gossip Girl (Ugh), "Come What May" and the melancholic Jap song, pictures of badminton

Kader- Pictures of the "fight" at City Hall

Weili- Firefly (perfect set), maybe Battlestar Galactica

Deliveries to be made:

Kader- Tower of Druaga (Season 2), Code Geass

Apparently, a long-haired, young, beautiful otaku man (who has entered my house thrice now though I've never met him) has delivered into our hands yet another treasure trove of much sought after anime. What a life-saver.

The kindness of strangers

I have the sunshine of smiles that never fade,
I have the moonlight of those who quietly stay beside me,
I have the twinkling light of distant stars in the night sky,
And whether or not I choose to accept it,
There is One watching over me, with a lamp in his hand
to guide my way.

1. Ate a decent dinner provided by the restaurant
2. Chatted with co-workers
3. Chatted with Ms. Naemah
4. Donah didn't say anything about my hair
5. Fisherman's PIE!
6. Daphne and her top friends came!
7. Chatted with complete strangers! (ex-strangers: Nathan from Australia, Fong from Hong Kong, and Fiona from Ireland, all working together in a Shipping Company)
8. Got tipsy on 1 glass of beer.
9. Got free beer.
10. Currently eating a salmon sandwich.

HELL YEAH

Derailment.

Monday night stumbled me. I was already setting my mind on quitting, and stepping into that room filled with so many more upstanding members of the community made it even more unsettling. I empathize a lot with Wan Ling, and a part of me has grown comfortable just being there, yet the other half of me feels so repulsed going there sometimes. I'm not sure I can step in there again.

I left about $12 of shuttle corks at Choa Chu Kang CC. I left a little bit of my dignity at Lot 1. And as the day passed, I left behind a little trust and a little doubt, a little bit of hope and a little bit of disappointment. In these places where I can't stand with my head held high, what will be, will be.

Urusawa Naoki's 'Monster' suggests that you forget the value of living when you forget what good food tastes like and how good scenery makes you feel. I'd extend that to say that you forget the value of a friend once you forget the good times you shared together. But what if you've just had too many good memories to count? When I think of such a person, I feel like I'm in a warm ocean.

Maybe doubt is the only thing holding you back. Maybe if you lock your misgivings in a box and avert your eyes from the end you're sure is in sight, things will be okay. But maybe, it just isn't.

Tripping

Today's outing to Lacelle was nice. Sweet. Neat. Snice. I took a leisurely walk from Bugis Mrt down to Lacelle, and what I found there was an awesome campus, free food and dessert, good looking girls, and enough arto to fill my hearto. It was an even better day for Kader, who got to compare the standard of his work with the Lacelle faculty. Lol. The Lacelle cafe would make a good chilling place. To top it all off, we got a picture with Brother Paul, of all people! Insane.

I discussed results with a lot of people around 12am. Some people maintained their scores, some didn't do very well, and a few did better than they thought they would. Only 1 person got an improvement in their GPA though. Overall, I'm really grateful for my results. Still, the B- is a real downer. Perhaps I shall pay the $10.50 and get an appeal, though I know Wubiao will just give me the same grade again. Haha.

At 2am, I watched Heroes. Three words: Karma, oh shit. The crisis was averted, but a terrible price had to be paid for it, and Mother Petrelli ended up doing something truly revolting. When Season 5 comes, the shit will hit the fan. I'm glad the show has become good again.

It was a good day for me. Here's to tomorrow.

"Why do we fall, Master Bruce?"

Here is a list of trendy Internet lingo I developed while in hall with Kei Seen. Try them on your friends. Try saying it out loud.

Nice the spice- e.g."That's nice the spice."

Sweet the peat- e.g. "That's sweet the peat."

Skillz the pillz- e.g. "Those skillz are not the pillz."

What 'bout my star?

There's a fine, fine line
Between what you wanted, and what you got.

Take out...

... the Red Matter.

... the Anti Matter.

... the Adamantium.

Star Trek > X-Men: Origins > Angels and Demons

I'm going to read Angels and Demons when I have the time, hopefully. I've still got plenty of unread books to finish before I can get something new though.

I went for my first on-the-job training last Saturday as a waiter at the Queen and Mangosteen Pub/Restaurant. Barring one mishap, it went reasonably well. I like the place and the food, and the music isn't jarring either. It's professionally done, but the prices are high to match that too. Haha. $6 an hour. I'm moving up in the world, haha.

So far I've been getting most of what I've wanted out of the holidays, meeting various friends in venues such as badminton courts, movie theaters, lan shops, and cheap eating places. I've been getting plenty of good food, air, and exercise. The only thing that's missing now is to stop procrastinating on doing some actual writing and perhaps looking for some courses e.g. Martial arts or sound crew courses. I think it'd be great to start banging on the piano too. Gotta get my fingers in shape so I can hold plates properly. Haha.

Happy belated birthday, Marky Boi!

Hope to see you back on the island soon, with some new stories to tell, and some new politically incorrect videos to make!

The Boy Searching For A Face

A friend once told me that I had a lot to learn about being in a relationship. He told me that there were plenty of times when my impatience to fix things had been counter-productive. Seeing as how I'm now still completely capable of making the same mistakes, I realize how very true that advice was... After having spent a long time apart from people I'd dreamed I would keep in contact with forever, I've only managed to learn two things:

No matter how much you want more from a friendship, you can only ever accept what others are willing to give. That is to say, you can always hope for more, but it is neither right nor practical to tell others, in more or less words, that we want more. It's like asking a stone to turn into a fish: Unnatural. What is, is what is, and what will be is what will be. We only have two choices: Be ourselves, and let things take their natural course, or play pretend, and build relationships on lies. (Though wanting more seems to have similarities to asking for change over real discontentment, they're really not the same thing though, we can mix them both together in a single request... There's another time to talk about that, I suppose.)

The second thing I learned is that you can tell yourself for months that there are people you hate and keep your anger brewing and bottled up inside, and yet, in the end, you will always find yourself missing them terribly.

Anyway, I re-read what he wrote, and it made me laugh, the way I could be angry with others for something that I myself had done to completely different people. Truly, judge not, lest ye yourself be judged... There was also a request to remember, and in doing so remember the most important things about someone. To be honest, I've forgotten most of the conversations we had. We need people around us to remember, as we retell old conversations and joke about old experiences around the dinner table. But I've always fancied that remembering the details are important, but not the key thing to knowing what a person is like, and I fancy that idea still. That deep impression of a person I can trust continues to remain.

As much as I've tried to convince myself that I can step into the shoes of others, the truth remains that I'm terribly unaware of my surroundings, and, terribly unaware of how people feel, something I found out for the first time in Secondary 4. Blur is the word. Hahaha. These labels we get when we were younger stick so well sometimes. I could lay in bed thinking for hours about situations and people and still come to no reasonable conclusions.

Which is what I did this evening, with intermittent disruptions from images of the 267 x 21 pages of 20th Century Boys I read popping up in my mind... How moving and how terrifyingly chilling that manga was... It was good to just lie face down and let my mind wander.

I've always thought that one of the most important decisions we can make in life is to always make the choice to believe in others. Lately though, I've been thinking that that idea obscures the equally important question, "What do we believe? Or who do we believe in?" We can try and try to believe, as honestly as we can and as hard as we want, but perhaps at the end of the day, we have to come back to the question of what we really think about things, and then work out a solution from there. I laid in my bed for a long time, half-awake and thinking about all the things I never had time to think of or think about during the university semester.

We don't always have the answers. We don't always have something to say in return.

And all this is, in part, because I told myself a lie: The worst kind of lie, the kind close enough to the truth that you can believe it yourself. Maybe that's why, for some time now, I felt I was unable to recognize myself. It wasn't, as I'd previously believed, that too many people made too many different demands on me, but that I'd started to deceive myself about who I really was... And though some of the postmodernist thinkers in our sociology papers ask the questions, "Who are we, really? Can we ever truly know?" and though they deride the idea of an essential self and promote ideas of fragmented selves, I think the truth remains that there are some things that we are, and some things that we are not.

Take aim

"Even in the darkness, every color can be found,
And every day of rain brings water, flowing to things
growing in the ground."
-Felicia Day, Dr.Horrible's Sing-a-long blog

"I wouldn't say that I'm a Shakespeare geek or anything, but you study it in school. And when you're 15 or 16 years old, how much you develop your love for it depends on how attractive your teacher is. Thankfully I had a very comely literature teacher when I was in Sec 3 and 4, who introduced us to Macbeth." -Adrian Pang, undoubtedly the coolest guy existing on this tiny island.

Hahaha. Thanks for scanning the photos of your project. Lol.

What now?
